“THE HUMAN HEART IS THE FIRST HOME OF DEMOCRACY”-Terry Tempest Williams
Dear Gov. Gavin Newsom,
I am writing to bring your attention to the reconciliation of the Winemem Wintu Tribe in Shasta. Your Truth and Healing council should attend to their efforts of bringing their salmon home by listening to the requests and suggestions of Chief Caleen Sisk.
Please watch this video about the Run4Salmon, a four year peaceful protest to support the Winnemem in their prayer to bring the salmon back to their tribal territory in a good way. Your “Truth and Healing Council” should consider California’s tribes a priority. Your leadership is necessary to influence the parties controlling water in Shasta.
Thank you for your presence in this matter,
Sincerely,
Michelle Magdalena
The Winnemem Wintu tribe of the Shasta region in California is fighting for the protection of the healthy water and salmon populations of California. For the past four years the tribe has organized a 700 mile two week prayerful journey from Segorte in San Francisco Bay all the way to Mount Shasta's headwaters and the tribal lands of the Winnemem on the McCloud River by foot, bike, boat and horseback. I joined the 2018 journey to support and document. In the process I was blessed to join and witness in the Winnemem's sacred ceremonial dances for the salmon, witness female leadership and learn more about the many challenges the indigenous communities face and have endured in California. May this video strengthen the prayer for the Winnemem and offer them support for their incredible efforts to support all life ways.
