BOHYPSIAN Journal was invited to introduce ourselves this weekend at the inspiring Community Palatte event of the year, a multidimensional fashion show with the purpose! Exhibiting, firstly community connection by acknowledging the loss of Weston Call, a young inspiring artist and active member in the Big Sur community. In Weston’s spirit the event opened with responsibility as the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Kera Abraham Panni announced the events ZERO-WASTE strategy, right before going back stage to get suited up for the runway. The event unfolded with a local remix of “California Dreaming” by Lillie Lemon and Eric A Wobbles to a sky high Aerialist! Drop the mic, Hanif Wonder dropped original lyrics hosting a slew of social commentary on everything from white privilege to checking yourself for getting angry in traffic. AWAKEN is and was a mark in collective artistic expression for the Monterey Peninsula and thats why creative director and designer Domini Anne had to push the subject of the gentrification of small town Sand City, because its places with spaces that make the arts possible.
The entire show was a riot of beauty with assistance by the Forest Theatre Guild and organizer / designer / producer Kierstyn Bachmann-Berlin who worked tirelessly to bring together a diversity of community citizens to participate and enjoy all for the common good. “Community Palette is a nonprofit organization that advocates for local economic, social, ecological and cultural restoration and evolution. Based on the concept of supporting and showcasing creative ideas from the grassroots of our vibrant Monterey Bay community, Community Palette events highlights an array of selected artists/entrepreneurs giving them the opportunity to share their passion with an audience of their peers.”
Thank you Kierstyn and Domini for bringing the community together and thank you to the Hawthorne Family and Don for hosting all the people to come together in one awesome space!!
